How to Remove Spedia Surf+ Completely

22-Aug-2001

Getting rid of Surf+ isn't a straightforward thing to do. You won't find an entry in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and also the free version of spyware killer Ad-aware doesn't to a good job in hunting Surf+ down.

Luckily, removing Surf+ from you system manually only requires a few steps.

How to manually remove Surf+.

  1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer. If you have Active Desktop enabled, disable that one for now.
  2. You'll need regsvr32.exe for removal. Do a search on your hard drive for regsvr32.exe. You'll find it in Windows' System or System32 folder. Take note of its path.
  3. Open a command prompt (aka DOS window) and go to the Windows folder (c:\windows, c:\winnt, ..).
  4. Type this (hit enter at the end of each line, the path to regsvr32.exe may differ if you're not on Windows NT/2000):
    c:\winnt\system32\regsvr32.exe -u surfplus.dll
    surfplus.exe -UnregServer
You will see a dialog that says Surf+ is about to uninstall. It's rather about to get disabled.
  5. Restart your computer so in-memory parts of Surf+ are forced to stop.
  6. Open up the command prompt again, and go to the Windows folder.
  7. Now proceed to delete all of Surf+ (some files may not be present, and mind to not open any Internet Explorer before doing this)
    del spactive.dll
    del surfplus.*
    del spiesetup.exe
    del spieinf.dat
    del gzlib.dll

You won't suffer from Surf+ anymore.
